I'm 10 days out from traveling to Carraig-na-gCat, an artist residency near Glandore, Ireland, where I will spend the next seven weeks.

Packing art-making supplies for air travel can be challenging. I learned the hard way years ago when traveling home from an installation in NYC at Governors Island Art Fair. I packed an 18" diameter roll of plaster cloth in my carry-on luggage. During bag screening, security pulled me aside, and for what felt like an eternity, with many eyes watching, they carefully searched my bag.

At first, I was confused, and then I realized that when plaster is dry, it's a powdery white substance. They thought it was cocaine?! That was fun. 

I now print & pack Safety Data Sheets with all art materials.
